I’ve seen all three film productions of Jane Austen’s “Emma,” and while all of them have merit, I devour that this version is the one that’s closest to the book. I’ll have to reread my copy of “Emma,” but it seems to me as if this movie is taken verbatim from the book. Unlike the Gyneth Paltrow and Kate Beckinsale Emmas, this movie takes a while to arrangement you in, but once you are drawn in–about the time Mrs. Elton (Ellen Dryden) appears–you’re zigzag. Dryden’s portrayal of the hilariously obscene Mrs. Elton is practically perfect. Doran Godwin, as Emma, sometimes seems a bit too prim, but she grows on you as the movie progresses. Debbie Bowen, as Harriet Smith, is certainly the best Harriet Smith of the three films. I also enjoyed Ellen Dryden’s portrayal of Mrs. Weston, and the actor who plays Mr. Weston gives life to what is a very minor character in the other two movies. Also totally charming, and unprejudiced as I imagined him is Donald Eccles’ portrayal of Mr. Woodhouse. To sum up: you may feel impatient with this movie at first, but watching it to the kill is worth the wait.
This is the one for you if you admire Jane Austen as great as I do. It is very faithful to the book. The acting is proper all around. Espcially in Emma and her father, Mr. Woodhouse. Basil Dingham does a terrific job playing the anxious and worrying Woodhouse.
This Emma is not “flashy” like Paltrow’s, but then that one took several major liberties. This one may acquire a dinky time to glean into. But stick with it! It is definitely rewarding and fulfilling to peek Jane Austen’s characters advance to live as she intended. You feel like you have traveled wait on in time to the Regency Era.

I have read on several Web sites that the ratings for this display are only so-so. It’s a shame more people aren’t watching it. This reveal has attracted the best character actors in Hollywood. And what a dream it must be to play characters that are so complex and multi-layered.

I will admit, the storylines are all very similar. They all revolve around either Bill having some declare with his wives or Bill struggling against people who are trying to preserve him from the business deals he wants to form happen. (This season is focused on making Weber Gaming a success and all the wretchedness the getting into gambling is causing him and his family) . The thing is, even though there is a predictable pattern of going wait on and forth between family drama and work drama, all the people in Bill’s life continue to evolve and we continue to observe them grow and struggle.
I truly hope this prove is renewed for a few more seasons. I am smooth very invested in these characters and want to know what happens to them.
As some of the other reviewers mentioned, it was a long time coming for Season 3 to approach out, but definitely worth the wait. I’ve been a true viewer of Ample Appreciate (it’s one of my approved HBO shows) since the beginning. The first one or two episodes of Season 3 may seem a bit trite (and dead) but that’s because the writers are building up the memoir line. Fill on to your seats because after the first couple of episodes, you’re going for a thrilling hurry. As always, character development is helpful as is the drama between the characters (inside and outside of the Hendrickson family) . I won’t go into the storyline, as I don’t want to spoil it for anyone, but this is a obvious must inspect.

There are many handsome reviews of “Glory” to be found here. I feel the same design about this extraordinary film, and after touching on the narrative I would like to talk about this DVD release(peruse above) which is an outstanding quality and genuine value.
“Glory” is an exceptional film. A correct tale of the Civil War that is both touching and inspirational. It depicts the tale of the first dusky unit from the North to be trained and actually go into battle. Led by their very empathetic but very young Colonel(played brillantly by Matthew Broderick), the 54th Regiment endures many hardships felt not only by being soldiers of this devastating war but as African Americans as well.Their spirit, pride and tears along the design, is projected in this film by these fantastic actors in a draw that will manufacture you feel all the anxiety and pride that they felt.

The cast includes Morgan Freeman as the Sergeant who is the motivating force late the soldiers. His performance is stirring. Denzel Washington, awarded Best Supporting Actor by Oscar for his role as the runaway slave looking for a home will disappear you to tears(or at least do a lump in your throat, which remains throughout), and Andre Braugher’s smile and tenacity will grab you and hold you.The cinematography and sound(both also honored by Oscar) are splendid.Beautifully directed by Edward Zwick it is a war anecdote that is more than action, it is one you won’t soon forget.

That is the 2 disc edition with lots of special features. If these are necessary to you in a DVD than that is the one you should probably go with. However, if you really treasure this film, but don’t want to expend as worthy for all the extras, this edition is identified by ASIN:0800177967. It is half the imprint of the “Special Edition”,and is a graceful transfer as well.You have the choice of viewing it in the recent widescreen(1.85:1) or a rotund hide version. The report is stunning, racy, crisp and neat. Colors spectacular. Depending on your dwelling up the sound options are 5.1(Digital Dolby) or 2-channel surround.I watched it in the 5.1 and was very impressed. All the sounds of the Civil War were distinct and certain. The music extraordinary. It may be viewed in Spanish or French and has subtitles in English, Spanish and French also.
Whatever edition you settle, this a a film that is a elegant addition to your DVD collection.It is one that will be watched again and again. Thank you and appreciate…..Laurie
Being a Civil War reenactor, as a group we tend to be very skeptical of the historical movies that hollywood provides.Glory is probably the only movie that almost every reenactor liked and sung the praises for. Glory stands out as a masterpiece of this bad time in the nations history. The cast was outstanding. Broderick is entirely convincing in his role as the idealistic young Colonel Robert Gould Shaw who commanded ONE of the first all dusky units of the Civil war. Morgan freeman captures the persona of the “wise, former seargeant” that is a classic motif of the war movie genre. However to me the actor who steals the note is without a doubt Denzel Washington. Washington gave even us rebs someone to adore(even as he was taking down 2 and 3 rebs at a time) as he went from the wrathful, rebellious young private(and for estimable reason) to the graceful soldier.

The position of the movie is consistent, and came across as a honest Epic to the audience, and not honest a lecture. The film captured the extremely racist attitudes of the time, and the announce hell that the characters went through to overcome it. Also the fetch was big, especially the final climatic scene for the attack on Battery Wagner. When Shaw is killed by Confederates, the fetch picks up with a perfect tune as the 54th makes their final assault. But most importantly the movie does not bore the average viewer like Gettysburg did with its hours of talk. The movie takes a very apt anecdote, throws in some mountainous characters, and follows it to a T. There is no wasted scene in Glory(which is more then we can say for other Civil war attempted movies) . This made it a joy for both Civil War buff and regular viewer alike.
Now for the gigantic sticking point. Historical accuracy. To this the movie scores a rather well salvage. Definite the final battle was not 100 percent lawful, and even the earliar skirmish in the woods(known in the war as the Battle for Sol Legare Island) . But this movie was not a documentary. Its goal was not to give a blow by blow history of the 54th… unprejudiced to command their general “sage”. With that intent, the movie greatly lived up to its accolades for its accuracy. The battle scenes were outstanding and gave war its “hellish” belief that was absent in Gettysburg to sizable degree. Only Private Ryan beats this movie in its attain at showing the viewer a taste of War.
Glory has also been arguable the most influential Civil War movie of all time. Tens of Thousands of people who had never picked up a Civil war book in their life, became twisted on this time period from Glory. That will perhaps be one of its finer legacies. How many african Americans(and Americans in general) became aware for the first time of those Blacks who wore a uniform in the Civil War from this movie. Countless. How many people do not know that honored legacy now that Glory has arrive out. Very few.

Move over Gettysburg, GWTW, and all the other “attempts” at a Civil war movie. Glory will probably never be topped in this genre. The best!!
