Stunning, incredible, informative and spectacular! Comes with 4 pairs of cardboard glasses. Do NOT exercise those (they’re OK, but not grand though!), Regain plastic ones instead! Better fit, better idea! Turn all your lights off, peep that DVD at night! It’ll acquire your breath away! I really enjoyed it! Highly recommend!
I first saw this movie in IMAX 3D and was truly impressed with a really splendid storyline and unbelievable 3D effects. When I saw this movie was released on Blu-Ray in 3D I was hesitant thinking the 3D at home would be a joke. I was proven otherwise. Even on the comfort of my couch the 3D is fantastic. You calm gather all the feelings of the shroud coming to life as well as objects projected so conclude you feel could be hit by them.

The immortals of the screen’s golden era transcend time because each of the fair greats was an orginal. Novel. Incomparable. Gable, Garland, Garbo, Davis, Bogart, Cagney, John Wayne, Cary Grant, Katharine Hepburn, Spencer Tracy…no one was like them before, or ever will be again. The same can surely be said about the improbable Errol Flynn.

Warner Bros. has been quite sterling in delivering us many Flynn titles in unique years, and there are dozens to go! This latest place will not dissapoint his fans, with 5 engrossing, classic vehicles, assembled in an impressive newly designed sleeve that takes the WB Signature Collection series to a higher plane of elegance and magnetism.
Every film here is top-drawer, but my particular current has to be CHARGE OF THE LIGHT BRIGADE. An undeniable classic which has never looked so gracious. All the transfers here are the best I’ve ever seen, and the vintage extras Warner has included are like the cherry on top of the sundae.

I’m definite WB has another 2 or 3 Flynn sets waiting in the wings…and why not. He made several dozen films for the studio, and only a handful don’t classify as timeless entertainment.
While every Errol Flynn fan has individual titles they will champion as ‘Essential’ Flynn, “The Errol Flynn Signature Collection, Vol. 2″, combined with the first volume, offers a graceful complete collection of the premier mask cavalier’s most memorable shroud appearances…and two of the films in this collection (“The Charge of the Light Brigade” and “The Adventures of Don Juan”), are absolute MUSTS!
“The Charge of the Light Brigade” (1936) : Flynn’s follow-up to “Captain Blood” is a tour-de-force of adventure, romance, and spectacle, climaxing in, arguably, the greatest (and bloodiest) cavalry charge in cover history! More Rudyard Kipling than Tennyson, most of the myth occurs in India, with pleasant Flynn saving the life of a genocide-minded tyrant, losing Olivia de Havilland (for once!) to future ‘Will Scarlet’ Patric Knowles, and chumming with doomed best friend (both on and off cover), David Niven. Eventually the action moves to the Crimea, and the rank Charge, an fantastic spectacle that, sadly, cost the lives of at least one stunt man, and hundreds of horses (Flynn, himself, would be so distraught by the carnage that he helped effect the prove standards against animal cruelty) .
Unforgettable!
“The Adventures of Don Juan” (1948) : Warner’s attempt to resuscitate Flynn’s sagging career failed, but the film is an absolutely curious, tongue-in-cheek swashbuckler many judge his last ‘great’ film! Looking a bit dilapidated (he fell off the wagon early in the production, which ended up taking nearly a year to complete), Flynn is the immortal roué, too often caught during trysts (a familiar real-life pickle for Flynn!) . Returned to Spain in disgrace, accompanied by trusty Alan Hale (in the last of his 12 films with Errol), he eventually wins the heart of the Queen, foils a set to overthrow the monarchy, and fights a excited duel with villain Robert Douglas, all to one of the GREATEST of Max Steiner’s scores!
A actual TREAT!
Two other films of the collection are also tall Flynn; “The Dawn Patrol” (1938) re-teams Flynn with David Niven and Basil Rathbone (a VERY sympathetic ‘villain’, this time!), in one of the BEST WWI dramas, of burnt-out fliers pushed to their limits; “Gentleman Jim” (1942), one of Flynn’s have personal favorites, is a comical, light-hearted biopic of boxer James J. Corbett, father of ‘modern’ boxing, with extraordinary turns by Alan Hale (as Flynn’s FATHER!), and Ward Bond (unforgettable as the aging John L. Sullivan) .
The only (petite) disappointment is “Dive Bomber” (1941), in the collection, I suspect, because it was filmed in color! A dated anecdote of the Navy’s research into the effects of high altitude flying on pilots, the film boasts a advantageous cast (including Fred MacMurray and Ralph Bellamy), and Flynn at his most pleasing, but it lacks the charm and excitement of the other titles…Aloof, this isn’t a dreadful film!
Happily, Flynn is Aid…and with his five WWII-themed films serene to be released, perhaps a Flynn ‘War’ collection will be next!

It’s honorable to say that Charley Brewster has a short attention span. In fact, that’s probably an understatement. But, when Charley oversees his unusual neighbor committing slay through his bedroom window, he finally gets some focus in his life. Great to the horror of his family and friends, however, his unusual focus is on vampires. After a violent confrontation with Jerry, the creature next door, Charley is desperate to waste the monster, and he attempts to enlist the help of local “Apprehension Night” scare host Peter Vincent, the doughty vampire killer, to do it. Unbelieving Peter is reluctant, but Charley’s girlfriend Amy and creepy-geek friend, Immoral Ed, convince him with a bit of financial persuading. Their way is to point to to Charley that Jerry Dandrige is not a vampire at all, but they are in for the terror of their lives, and it’s anybody’s guess who will survive the trusty “Dismay Night!”

“Apprehension Night” is an 80s vampire flick for the classic fright fanatic! Paying homage to such staples as Shadowy Shadows and the Hammer Dracula franchise, this surprising runt panic film supplies vampire lore and cliches aplenty, attach together so skillfully that the result is this dread fan’s celebrated vampire indulgence. Of course, this favoritism is in no tiny allotment due to spectacular effects and performances! The cast seems tailor made for their roles as they play them, even if some choices seem a bit weird superficially. Hard to imagine this vampire pining away over the centuries for Married With Children’s Marcy D’Arcy, but Amanda Bearse plays the role of the teenage object of Chris Sarandon’s desires to perfection. Chris, himself, is powerfully convincing and menacing as the hip, 80’s vampire. Extremely well adjusted to the times, too. His slave-boy zombie, Billy Cole, is played by an excellently creepy Jonathan Stark, but he’s out-creeped by the always somewhat disturbing Stephen Geoffreys as Nefarious Ed. Of course, William Ragsdale IS Charlie Brewster, and his portrayal is what propels the film. The icing on THIS cake, however, aside from the teenage victim in the window that I’ve had a crush on all my life, played by someone named Irina Irvine, is the smart performance of one of my all-time faves, Roddy “Bullwhip” McDowall, as Peter Vincent, vampire killer! The slack, stout Roddy McDowall is definitely the yeast that raises this film from vampire movie mediocrity. Despite the nearly bare bones disc, featuring only a trailer and double-sided widescreen/fullscreen selection, this DVD is a must gain for vampire, fright, and McDowall fans alike. Be prepared for some cheezy 80’s music and a immense time that you’ll want to experience again and again! Also, be certain to check out “Alarm Night 2,” one of the best sequels ever made!
At first witness, Awe Night looks like another cheesy vampire film: a young man figures out that a vampire has moved next door, no one believes him, the vampire comes after him, his only hope is an feeble alarm actor, etc. It’s attractive predictable, correct down to the whole thing about the boy’s girlfriend bearing a striking resemblance to one of the vampire’s feeble flames. So yes, in its believe procedure, Panic Night is cheesy. At the same time, though, it is oh so remarkable more than you would seek information from – an inspiring, somewhat creepy vampire film that features some astronomical acting and some really impressive special effects. You put a question to to contemplate really terrible, noticeably cheap special effects in a film like this, but Alarm Night hits a home accelerate in this department.
William Ragsdale plays Charley Brewster, a typical horror-loving kid who honest so happens to win out that his recent neighbor is a vampire – naturally, no one believes him, including his friend Tainted Ed (Stephen Geoffreys in a truly annoying performance) and his girlfriend Amy (Amanda Bearse, who went on to play Marcie on Married With Children) . For some reason, Charley decides to be originate about his suspicions, thus letting the vampire know that he knows his puny secret – not a bright travel, as Charley soon learns courtesy of a microscopic visit from the unusual guy in town. This vampire, I must say, looks nothing like your typical Count Dracula; he actually looks like a reject from Dance Fever, making it a microscopic hard for me to bewitch him seriously (although the threat of “Deney Terrio” busting out some disco moves in the film’s one night club scene certainly had me feeling uneasy) . In desperation, Charley goes to the only man he thinks can serve him – Peter Vincent, Vampire Killer (Roddy McDowall) . Vincent killed many a vampire – in the movies – and he is now the local host of Dismay Night, a late-night apprehension demonstrate. As you might question, Vincent doesn’t really absorb in vampires and, once he sees that Charley is telling him the truth, he isn’t too anxious to fight them, either. McDowall is really colossal in this movie; he is the lynchpin upon which most of the movie’s success depends.

I can’t say enough about the special effects, especially those in the film’s climactic moments. As a alarm fan, I really delight in the filmmakers spending the time and money to give me such an impressive present. The location features a number of clichés as well as a couple of “oldest tricks in the book,” but the inspired performance of Roddy McDowell combined with the astounding special effects leads me to bump my rating up from four to five stars. This probably won’t be the best vampire film you’ve ever seen, but I am positive that fans of the genre will not fail to glean like a flash a kick out of Apprehension Night.
